'Planned Giving' is the collective term for a contribution given at life or death (such as a bequest made through a person's will), a life income gift (such as a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity), a reserved life estate, and gifts of life insurance, IRAs, pension plans or land. Donors who have made significant planned gifts help ensure the long-term financial viability of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever.

There are several types of planned gifts that an individual can make for the benefit of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever:

Bequests
Bequests represent the majority of all planned gifts to Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever. Bequests are included in your will or living trust and can be added as a codicil to either your will or living trust anytime.

There are a number of options available, no matter what the size of your estate. All gifts to us through your estate, whether by specific or residual bequest, qualify for a 100% charitable estate tax deduction.

**Specific Bequest: Pheasants Forever receives a designated amount or asset from the estate. This designated amount can be either a fixed dollar amount or a stated percentage of your estate. You may have a particular asset that is more appropriate as a charitable gift than as a gift to specific individuals. Often real property falls into this category. Generally bequests are found at the beginning of your will and are distributed before the remainder of the estate.

**Residual Bequest: After each specific bequest has been provided for, Pheasants Forever receives all or a fractional portion of the estate residue. The most common form of residual bequest expresses the gift as a percentage of the residue. By stating the gift as a percentage, you allow for the increase and decrease in the value of your residuary assets. Thus, the designated gift portion remains constant, but the actual value fluctuates (hopefully increasing) with the value of the residue.

**Contingent Bequest: Pheasants Forever receives all or a designated portion of the estate only in the event of the death of another beneficiary.

**Trust Remainder Bequest: A trust can be created through a will or with an agreement that provides for a lifetime income to a loved one. Pheasants Forever receives all or part of the remaining trust principal after the death of the income beneficiary.

Charitable Gift Annuity
This is a simple contractual arrangement between you and Pheasants Forever  where you make an irrevocable gift to Pheasants Forever or Quail Forever and receive a fixed income for your life.

Charitable Remainder Trust
A Charitable Remainder Trust is similar to a charitable gift annuity but usually done for a larger amount. This trust arrangement provides for either a variable payment or fixed payment plan where you receive an income for life with the "remainder" principal sum going to Pheasants Forever.

Charitable Lead Trust
This type of trust is actually the reverse of the Trust Remainder. When it is created, the income generated is paid to Pheasants Forever for the life of the donor or a term of years. When the trust ends, the remainder of the assets are passed on to an heir. There are usually significant estate benefits with this type of gift.

Life Insurance
Paid up policies that are no longer needed for the protection of your family can be donated to Pheasants Forever as well as new or outstanding policies in which the donor commits to covering the premium payments.
